Highlands Ranch High School
When considering a move to the popular community of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, education is a top concern for families. However, parents need not worry as Highlands Ranch schools are considered a “lighthouse” offering a variety of innovative programs and advanced educational approaches.  A part of the Douglas County School District (DCSD), Highlands Ranch schools abide by the DCSD mission statement of providing an educational foundation that allows each student to reach his or her individual potential.  Parents visiting the schools are impressed by beautiful premises and facilities, informative visits with the teachers and principals, and the observation of students in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities.  A common goal amongst Highlands Ranch schools is to help each student reach their individual potential which is accomplished by a student partnership of engaged parents as well outstanding teachers and staff. These students, who lead meaningful and productive lives, quickly become responsible citizens who contribute to society in meaningful ways.

Cresthill Middle School
Superintendent Jim Christensen and the Board of Education attribute Douglas County School District as being one of the finest and fastest growing school districts in Colorado due to the strong attention of an individual focus on each student. With Douglas County being the fourth largest school district in the Denver Metro area, it boasts an impressive student to teacher ration of 17 to 1. Priding itself on a vast array of extracurricular activities, a highly researched and detailed curriculum, and a strong community involvement, it is easy to see how the DCSD and the board of education continuously strive to be one of the top school districts in the nation.

Highlands Ranch currently is home to 17 public elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 high schools. Amongst those schools, 22 are public and 3 are private.  With a population in Highlands Ranch currently at 87,755, there is an average of 2.8 schools for every 10,000 people. On average, the number of schools per 10,000 residents is about 7.  Many elementary schools in Highlands Ranch are on a four-track or "year-round" schedule, holding breaks throughout the year which not only maximize the efficient use of the facilities, but also allow students to retain recently learned information as opposed to long summer breaks.

Academics in Highlands Ranch come first and it shows:  ACT and SAT scores in the DCSD district are consistently above state and national averages, and are steadily rising.  In addition, Highlands Ranch high school students are offered more than 50 competitive athletic sports and activities and nearly 80 percent of the students take part in extracurricular activities.

It is evident that the Douglas County School District has set excellence as its benchmark, and Highlands Ranch schools have set the bar for exceeding this standard offering everything required of exceptional schools.
